Call for MIE Board Applications!

MIE wouldn’t exist without volunteer leaders! As we wrap up the 2023-24 academic year, we seek to fill openings for the 2024-25 MIE Board. Duties begin in summer 2024 and conclude in May 2025. The following positions are open for the upcoming year:

  • Co-Chair (1-year commitment)

  • Chair-Elect (2-year commitment; to serve as Chair or Co-Chair for 2025-26)

Exciting MIE Member Opportunity! Regional Nafsa conference scholarships available!

APPLY FOR OUR NAFSA REGIONAL CONFERENCE SCHOLARSHIP!

MIE will be offering scholarships to eligible member candidates to help subsidize a trip to the NAFSA Regional Conference from 10/24-10/26/2023 in Coralville, Iowa. 

There will be three scholarships for $200 each.  This can be used for conference registration or for travel expenses (hotel, mileage). It is a great way to network within the comfort of our own region, and learn more about NAFSA.

To apply for MIE Scholarship, please submit the following via email to chair@mie-mn.com:

  1. An academic and/or professional profile telling us about you, and some of your international education experience. (max 250 words)

  2. A statement of interest for attending NAFSA Regional Conference 2023, including what you hope to learn and gain from the experience. (max 500 words)

The deadline to submit your scholarship application is September 10, 2023.

Announcement: Summer of 2023 CBP tour!

The CBP in-person tour to the U.S. Port of Entry at the MSP airport is scheduled for Tuesday, July 25th, 2023. The tour is possible through collaboration between MIE, SEVP and the CBP. 

Leader:  Abby, Customs and Border Protection (CBP) Supervisor

Co-facilitated by: Wynter Miller, MIE Vice Chair, Julie SEVP Field Representative, and Mary ICE Community Relations Officer

The deadline to apply and submit documentation is May 30th, 2023.  

Details:

  • 1.    All participants must submit the linked form (DHS USC Visitor Form, OR the DHS Foreign Visitor Form) and a photocopy of one of the following documents: U.S. Passport, U.S. Passport Card, U.S. Birth Certificate, Lawful Permanent Resident Card (I-551), U.S. Naturalization Certificate, U.S. Certificate of Birth Abroad, U.S. Certificate of Citizenship or Work Authorization Document (EAD card) by May 30th, 2023. Pre-screening by CBP is required for all participants. Please get them in on time!

  • 2.    The tour begins promptly at 9:30 a.m. at Minneapolis/St. Paul Airport, International Arrivals (all the way to the left). An MIE representative will be welcoming and checking-in participants from 9:00 a.m. Please arrive early so that we can complete all check-in procedures quickly and efficiently.

  • 3.    There is parking at T1 and T2 and free transportation between the terminals. Plan ahead if you will need to catch the tram to Terminal 1.

  • 4.    The tour will last for one hour and will include time for questions.

  • 5.    Maximum capacity for the tour is 25. MIE members are given preference. After May 19th, remaining spots may be offered to other PDSOs/DSOs.

Once again, please complete the attached form that corresponds with your citizenship status along with a copy of your passport or alternate documentation to chair@mie-mn.com by May 30th, 2023

Welcome our new leadership

Please join our community in welcoming our new leadership! Molly Hoffmann (Assistant Director of EBV for the University of Minnesota ISSS) and Lori Friedman (Director of Office of International Students & Scholars) will be co-chairing MIE until May 2024. Wynter Miller (Director of Office of International Programs from the College of St. Scholastica) will serve as Chair-Elect until May 2024, and then become Chair of MIE until May 2025.
